If I were the casting director . . .

As I sit here in my comfy couch, all snuggled up with a plush throw over my legs, I'm watching a rerun of "Miracle", the story of the 1980's USA hockey team who won Olympic Gold. "Do you believe in miracles?" is still a catch phrase and Jimmy Craig still lights my fire just as he did back in the day. I mention this because every time a goal is scored, my laptop jumps and I am forced to go back and correct typos.
But I digress. Back in the summer of 2010, as I wrote "The List", I kept a picture of the younger, infinitely healthier Nick Nolte in my head to play Mick Dineen, former member of the Pittsford Road Posse, turned modern day Palladin for the helpless and hopeless.
For those of you who only know Mr. Nolte from recent mug shots, I want to assure you when this man played the lead in "Prince of Tides" opposite Barbra Streisand he was a living, breathing hunk. His hands fascinated me as did his voice--the same effect Mick's had on Fiona Thorpe as she sat with him at the Eastman Awards banquet, trying to figure out who the hell he was. Like Nick Nolte, Mick walked with purpose, a fluid athletic stride, jacket slung over one shoulder, opposite hand in his pocket, the briefest of smiles on his craggy face. Yummo.
Now for Fiona Thorpe, formerly known as Fat Aggie and Thunder Thighs. My first pick would be a slightly younger Madeleine Stowe. If she was unavailable, Catherine Zeta Jones would work. Catherine has those dancer's legs, smoldering eyes and the build.
My pick to play Ready Betty Baumgartner? Kyra Sedgwick or Cameron Diaz.
I have no clue who could do justice to Dickhead. Any thoughts?

Hi, Veronica. You know...although he wasn't described this way, I kinda pictured Dickhead as the Sheriff Buck from American Gothic, but with a creepy edge.

In Something More, my heroine Nora thought the hero, Nick, looked like Hugh Jackman's better looking brother. :-)

Oh, yeah. LOVED the movie "Miracle". When it first came to the theaters, my mother-in-law and I went to see it. Hubby wasn't that interested. But, I'm off topic, huh?

I wanted Kyra Sedgewick for Bethany Andrews Thomas, MD, my heroine in Glad Tidings. (Not that The Closer star couldn't pull off a mean Ready Betty.) I'll be back when I figure out someone else. As for Dickhead, how about that creepy guy from Fargo? (I'm not good on names:)

Hi there!

For Inn Decent Proposal, my pick for Tony the Wolf is Danny DeVito. I know, he's a lovable guy, but Tony needs a touch of humor and Danny has that!

My Hero, Jim, I'd pick Keanu Reeves.
For my Heroine, Genie, I'd pick Reese Witherspoon.
For Dickhead, I'd go with Ed Harris.
For Betty, my vote goes to Cameron Diaz!

Margo, the creepy guy from Fargo was Steve Buscemi, and the character he played seems like a pretty good fit for old-Dickhead, except maybe that character was more homocidal!

For my characters in "The Girl Most Likely", I envision someone tall and dark like Keenu Reeves to play Finn, and if he's already taken, I'd go with Jude Law, assuming he'd be okay with me dying his hair dark. My character Cara is curvy and beautiful, maybe someone like Julianne Moore or Rachel Weisz, if they were blonde.

Fun blog post Veronica!

Hi all,
I have 3 books - no fair making me cast all of them. So I'll start with Lonely Road to You. My gorgeous dark haired bad boy rock star, Adam North, has got to be John Stamos. I always pictured Kate Abbott, who is probably the most composed and refined heroine I've ever written, as Kathryn Morris. Kathryn played Lilly Rush on Cold Case, and I think she'd make a perfect Kate. As for Ready Betty, she didn't appear in my books, but my vote goes to Cameron Diaz, as well. Okay, Hollywood, get busy and start casting!

thanks to everyone who responded.
Sharon B.--Danny DeVito is perfect for Tony. Even better than Joe Pesce.

Margo--Kyra Sedgwick for Bethie the doc. She's a talented actress. Can she wield a tongue depressor?

Glad to see you agree with Cameron Diaz playing Ready Betty.

Keanu Reeves. He's the right age. Yep, he could do Finn.

You guys are the best!!

I couldn't let something like this go by without commenting.
for the leads in Embraceable You, I'd cast Daniel Craig for Rory McElroy and hope to hell he can dance. Even if he can't dance, I'll take him any way I can get him. For Dru Horvath, I'd like Rooney Mara. What a great name! Plus, if she can kick a hornet's nest, she can do a Gypsy woman.

Hello again,

I don't know what happened to my first post, if this shows up twice I'm sorry. The cast for Getting it Right could come from Breakfast Club,Judd Nelson would be Denny and Emilio Esteves would play Tyler. My heroine would be a young Barbara Perkins, (she played Betty on the Peyton Place TV soap opera many years ago). My choice for Dick head would be Dog Chapman (the Bounty Hunter) and Betty would be Dog's wife Beth. Off the wall choices, what can I say my mind is a strange place. Jannine, Cold Case is one of my favorite shows, perfect heroine.

Do you think Michelle Pheiffer, dumbed down of course, would be a good Ready Betty?
How about Steve Carell [? spelling] for Dickhead?
Or Ray Liotta--except I don't think he's tall enough.

Ray Liotta is WAY too pretty!!
